Red Letter: News

The Hills - August 28, 2008

"For Once In My Life" will be featured in this Monday's episode of "The Hills" on MTV. Do you watch that show? I'm clueless about most shows, but hey, I'm a songwriter, busy writing songs. Right? Nonetheless, this is a good thing! : )

You can check out our MTV-related page at http://soundtrack.mtv.com/redletter for fun.

xxoo.

Summer 2008! - August 6, 2008

Hello friends,

Happy warm summer! Frank and I are living at the beach this summer due to some kooky circumstances. We set up the studio in a teeny corner and have been busy writing and recording for a variety of projects. We plan to have some new stuff available to listen to and download in the reasonably near future, a cover song and some originals too. It's sooooo nice to be able to walk to the beach in the middle of whenever and stick my toes in the sand. Hope you're having an equally lovely season.

xo,
Jess

Singing For A Cure - February 14, 2007

We are thrilled to be invited to perform at The 11th Annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, a walk and run to benefit the Los Angeles County Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, on Sunday, February 25, 2007 at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. You're all invited to participate in the race or just show up and join in the festivities. I won't be running in this one, just singing...but I AM training to run a marathon this summer. And I have a personal investment as my own mother is a breast cancer survivor. She's been healthy for 9 years now. : )

Over 15,000 women and men will participate, including numerous celebrity supporters. Recent celebrities have included Jennifer Love Hewitt, Marg Helgenberger, Christina Applegate, Mary Steenburgen, and many others.

Festivities kick off at 9:00 a.m. with a Breast Cancer Survivor’s Ceremony, followed by a: 5k walk/run and 1k fun run, a health and fitness expo, and an awards ceremony. We will perform at 1pm.

"Lucky" on ABC's Brothers & Sisters - February 6, 2007

I haven't updated here in a long time! I do most of my blogging on myspace now (www.myspace.com/redletterrocks). We've had an overwhelming response to our song "Lucky" being featured in the ABC show "Brothers & Sisters", so I wanted to be sure to make this information available to anyone who may land here in search of a download.

First off, you can still watch that episode of B&S and hear the song online! The entire show is available on their site for free! Here's where you go:

http://dynamic.abc.go.com/streaming/landing

Click LAUNCH NOW and then "Brothers & Sisters" (Sundays at 10pm)

Then select the episode from 1/21/07 "Something Ida This Way Comes"

"Lucky" plays toward the end of the show when Sally Field is having a heart to heart with her mother at around 34:20. Enjoy! It's a good show. : )

If you're looking to download the song, you can purchase "Lucky" thru Indieclectic for $.99. Here's the link:

Top 10 - October 18, 2006

Yippee! We learned last night that we made the Top 10 of Star Tomorrow. TOP 10!!! That is fantastic and amazing and we are so grateful to all of you who continue to vote for us.

The Star Tomorrow site seems to be down right now. Give it another day and it should be functional and you can cast your votes for us. I'll put up links galore once I have them. In the meantime, I'm fixing to take full advantage of this non-voting time and go for a long walk with my painfree body (!) and enjoy this gorgeous Fall day in Los Angeles.

Hope the sun is shining on you too.

love,
Jess

We's In the Finals Baby!!!!!! - October 10, 2006

We need all y'all's votes before October 16th to advance to the next round.

The Good & Bad of Star Tomorrow - October 3, 2006

The Good News: We're into the Semi-Finals of NBC's Star Tomorrow and our latest performance in the competition is our best so far. "You Don't Change" is the song of the hour and we're hoping to pull in a million votes this week. We need your help! VOTE FOR RED LETTER ON STAR TOMORROW

The Bad News: The Star Tomorrow site is only working intermittently. Poo! If you follow the link and you don't find what you're looking for, please try back again tomorrow. They should have all the kinks worked out soon!

All About Red Letter in Star Tomorrow - September 23, 2006

Red Letter is about to begin Round 3 of NBC's "Star Tomorrow" - the Semi-Finals.

Red Letter was one of 92 bands chosen by Grammy Award winning producer David Foster, out of thousands of bands and artists to be featured performers in NBC's music competition "Star Tomorrow". Every week a different batch of those bands competes online (yes, on the internet!) in order to advance to the next round. Online viewers vote to determine who advances - just like American Idol - it's all in the people's hands. The winner of the competition receives a major label deal with Warner Brothers Records and David Foster himself will produce.

Bottom line is - we need your votes to make it happen!

Y'all came through bigtime in Round 1 -- thank you so much! The 92 bands got reduced to 46 and we're still in there. And then in Round 2 you helped us kick some more booty - now there are only 25 bands left (they added a few back in).

We are in the semi-finals -- the home stretch, boys and girls, and though your fingers may be tired, put 'em on ice, keep 'em flexed...we're going to need you clicking up a storm on our behalf.

Round 3 will happen over a 2 week period starting this Monday, September 25th through October 9th. Red Letter will have a live performance of an original song up during that time and we need you to register, watch and VOTE, VOTE, VOTE. Thank you endlessly for your support.

~Jess & Frank

Project My World - September 22, 2006

Just last week Jess won the vocal spot for a new show called "Project My World" debuting on DirecTV, Channel 101 on October 2nd. The theme is a cool pop/rock song called "My World" and the show is a reality thang about 3 girls/Europe/a quest for love, adventure and music and MySpace. Confused? Watch the show and listen for Jess throughout!!!

** And - we made it into the Semi-Finals of Star Tomorrow!!! We're gonna need your votes very soon. Please make sure you're on our email list -- we will let you know when the voting begins!!!

Round 2 of Star Tomorrow - September 1, 2006

Round 2 of Star Tomorrow begins Monday, September 4th. The producers informed us that we will be performing one of our original songs -- YAY! I will send out an email with a link to our performance and please - all y'all - vote for Red Letter!

Regarding Star Tomorrow - August 14, 2006

Well, I made the foolish assumption that when voting ended at 6pm today we'd actually know the results! No such luck. I'm getting the feeling that we'll all be left hanging until Week 5 has passed (we're in Week 3 right now). Ah well. Such is life, right? Non-attachment, non-judgment, non-resistance (chanting to self). Deep breath. : )

We've got a gig at Genghis Cohen tomorrow night. Just me and Frank, which we haven't done in a long while. It should be fun to be so...audible...but I'll miss the guys.

Talk soon.
~J

Watch us on Star Tomorrow and VOTE! - August 1, 2006

So, in order for us to get to the next round in the Star Tomorrow competition, we have to have serious numbers of votes. When you follow the link on our homepage, you have to register and then you can vote for us over the other band -- right now we're just up against one other group. You also have the option to "Approve" us if you dig deeper into the site. You then get to leave a nice comment and become a "FAN". This is awesome, but more than anything - we need your vote. So don't confuse being a "fan" with voting.

Thank you all so much for your support!!!!!!!!!!

Filming "Star Tomorrow" - July 25, 2006

Wow. That was quick. We found out about the show on Wednesday night, auditioned Thursday...MADE THE FINALS Thursday afternoon and filmed the whole thingamajig today. It was pretty awesome. We have a well-rehearsed band of super cool guys who dropped everything to get to the shoot today, and Frank and I did a couple of acoustic numbers without them too. We put out a ton of energy, sweated like maddogs (thanks to the 103 degree Burbank weather) and did a damn fine job if I do say so myself. Now it's up to the voters. : )

The show will be on NBC on MOnday, July 31st at 8pm Pacific. The show will introduce you to the concept and all the contenders. They will also instruct you as to how to do your voting online. I will make sure and send an email BEGGING YOU AND YOUR GRANDMOTHER to vote for us. We'd really, really like to win the record deal.

So, it was a fun day, a big stage and a great feeling. Now we let go and see what fate has in store.

Oh and in the meantime, we rock Monsoon in Santa Monica tonight!

Red Letter Makes the Cut on "Star Tomorrow" - July 21, 2006

Yesterday we made the finals on the NBC show "Star Tomorrow"! We will be competing with 99 other performers for your vote. The show premieres on NBC July 31st.

We auditioned for David Foster (the premiere pop producer of our time) and Travis Barker (of Blink 182) and received their endorsement and enthusiastic acceptance into the finals. David Foster actually joined us on stage and jammed with us spontaneously!! He's quite talented FYI. : )

Stay tuned...

Santa Monica Here We Come - July 9, 2006

I spent a few formative years in SM and am pleased to make the drive 3 miles West to perform at Monsoon on the 25th. It's a full band gig - we're bringing out all the Matts and Stefano too. So, bring out your buddies and cheer us on!

A Show - No Joke - March 11, 2006

It's an April Fool's Day show, but we're not fooling about anything.

February 12, 2006

From Genghis show in January. We rocked the house.

rehearsals.com - February 8, 2006

We had sooooooooo much fun last week filming an all day rehearsal with the band at Centerstaging in Burbank. It was a special, wondrous thing that we got invited to do this. I don't think any of us knew what a huge production it would be. There were a bazillion cameras on us the entire day -- kind of a reality show for the internet thing. So all of our mistakes and efforts and lame jokes were captured on film - on HI DEF! It was a great learning experience and wow - we can't wait to see how the finished product comes out. We'll keep you posted.

Here are some crappy pix from the day:

Living Life - January 11, 2006

It's been a productive day of songwriting (I think it's a really good one...), returning ill-fitting Xmas gifts, TJ's and laundry. Pretty damn glamorous life I'm living! I'm feeling very grateful just to be alive and well and in the midst of so much energetic musical productivity. I'm making it a point to occupy each day - to WAKE up within the "mundane" and experience my life in person, in the flesh.

Spur of the moment - we're playing Burbank Bar and Grill on San Fernando this Friday (the 13th!) from 8-12. Oy! Lots of cover songs will be forthcoming.

And don't forget - Jan 18th at Genghis.

: )
